Sangam is the unified import/export filter strategy which stipulates that all different file formats be brought to an abstract level, called SOM which is an in-memory hierarchy of rich elements and attributes. During import, SOM is mapped to an application DOM using an application specific plug-in. During export, role reversal takes place where a Sangam compliant writer component uses SOM to write to the required format specification.
Sangam currently is integral to InDesign, InCopy, Bishop, Illustrator, Acrobat, FrameMaker and PageMaker applications for Importing various formats like MSWord, MSExcel, RTF (verion 1.6 and 1.7), Plain Text, PageMaker, Quark, Corel, Freehand, DXF, CGM (and more to come) and exporting RTF and Plain text (Unicode and Platform flavours) to both physical streams and clipboard workflows.
The Sangam team works on development technologies such as C/C++ on Windows, Mac (PPC & Intel), & Unix platforms.
JPEG 2000 JPEG 2000 is a wavelet based image compression standard. It offers 25 - 30% better compression than JPEG at similar qualities. JPEG 2000 also offers resolution scalability (multi-resolution) and quality scalability (embedded bitstream).
Being a modern standard, it has a file format that allows representing images of any bit-depth up to 32 bits, all color spaces, transparencies and alpha channels. The file format also specifies an XML schema for representing image metadata.
